EMPLOYERS' OFFER REJECTED
WELLINGTON, May 5,
The national ballot taken by the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Federation on the question of the acceptance or rejection of the employers' offer of increased pay from la lOd to 2s per hour, resulted in the offer being rejected by 2167 votes to i7OB. Surprise is expressed at so small a vote on such an important matter. It is estimated that there are nearly 6000 members in the "unions affiliated with the federation and it was fully expected that there would be more thaa 3875 votes recorded. An official of the federation states that subject to a settlement on the question of increased pay there will be a further conference with the employers on the anomalies in the existing agreement.
