Nominations for Road,. Board: membership closed yesterday,, and there being only five. ; nominees, no election will be necessary- The. Road Board' now consists of Messrs W. W. Goodwin,. H. Maginness, J.Carr, W T. P. Lock> and T. S. J. Doherty.. The only change in the; personnel of the board is that Mr Doherty replaces Mr Mangin, who did not offer himself for re-election.
It is pleasing to note that the board' has at last commenced lcerbing the footpath of one of the blocks in the township. There are other footpaths that are nracli more-in; need of atteri- • tion than part of the block in question, j and we must hope that further' works : will be undertaken. ; ' ' '.'■ > '/■:. i ■ . -..■'•: ■ "'■ |'( MOUNT SOMERS. ■j At a meeting; of the Mount Somei's : Peace Celebration's Committee, held on Wednesday, night, it was decided to, ' contribute £30 towards the-, peace celebrations at Ashburton, and'also to contribute £20 towards any peace celebrations that may be organised locally in i the Mount Somers'Road District. The \ latter sum will carry a .Government' j subsidy of £ for £', which will'make 1 ! £40 available for local celebrations.
