The-headmaster; Mr W. 'F. Waiters; rewrted that- the school roll' was. 204— 104 boys.and 100 girls. The average' attendance for the past month had been 186. or 91 per cent, of the roll. The term examinations were being held. The school would break up for the first term holidays on .Friday, May 2, and would re-open on Tuesday, May 27.— The report was adopted.
The Timaru High School Board intimated that at a recent meeting of that body it was suggested that it might be advantageous and of mutual benefit if a conference of High School Board representatives could be arranged to discuss matters of general interest in connection with secondary education, especially in regard to capitation payments and teachers' salaries, and asked what the opinion of the local board was on the suggestion.—Members spoke in favour of the suggestion, and it was resolved —" That the board is in sympathy with the suggestion, and will be pleased to make arrangements to have the board represented at a conference." The Treasury notified payment of srant of £2225 in connection with the purchase of a .hostel, and £24 7s 6d capitation for woodwork classes. —Received . Messrs Lill and Oakley were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing; month.
Accounts • amounting to £647 were massed for payment.
