METKYEN v. RAKALA. r. On Saturday last, at Methveu, the 1 local cricket team met Rakaia in their return match. When the. teams met at Rakaia last month Methven had a comparatively easy win, but on this occasion the game proved much more interesting. Batting first, Rakaia put on 122 runs, of which McLennan made a forceful 82. Methven started badly, and had seven wickets down for 60 runs, but with Tomlinson and Anderson associated runs came freely, and the innincs closed for 126. Tomlinson made 38. Anderson 18, and Grubb and Geddos each 14. At their second venture Rakaia made 75 for six wickets. ■ and declared. Davison made 25, Carrie 21, and McLennan 14. Requiring 72 to win. Methven made the runs for the loss of four wickets, Grubb (46). Tomlinson (19), and Owen (12 not out) being the chief scorers. Rakaia bowling honours were shared by Davison and McLennan, tho. former taking eight wickets in all, and' the latter 5. For Methven, Owen got five wickets, Geddes four, Grubb three, and Butterworth two. The local players entertained the visitors at luncheon and afternoon tea.
