MUNICIPAL TRAWLERS.

AUCKLAND, April 22

Before the Industries Committee today, Mr J. JB. Pater son gave evidence respecting municipal trawling. He said that the City Council opened a retail shop with a capital of £20,000, borrowed by the ratepayers' approval. There has undoubtedly been a reduction iii the retail price of fish, but whereas, it was thought that fish could be landed at £5 per ton, the cost was about £10 per ton. At present the Council's venture was not profitable.l It J had been handicapped by its trawler being commandeered for mine-sweep-ing purposes. 1 )
