1 A correspondent writes: —A number' of householders in the Wakanui School, District are forwarding a protest to the! North Canterbury Education Board; nenhist certain irregularities in r the | conduct of the election of the new \ School Committee. It was disclosed at j the meetincr of householders on Monday night that Mrs Begg, «■ member of the committee! during the past year, had also been the caretaker of the school, and has been accepting the usual payment. Mrs Begg, while still the paid , • snrvant of the committee, was nominated for re-election. The chairman, ■Mr F. Frampton, accepted her nomination, and she was re-elected. It is such a flagrant breach of Section 42 of the Education Act that a new election is practically a certainty. Mr Frampfcon's eligibility for membership is also being questioned. He was the chairman during the past year, and there appeared in the balance-sheet a payment winch bad been made to the secretary for his services. On being Questioned who the secretary was, Mr Frampton replied that he was the secretary. Subsequently he explained that Mrs Frampton was the secretary, but as no other secretary besides himself has ever been present at a meeting, the matter is being placed before the board for its decision.
