DEBATING CLUB.

fTo the Editor, "<Guabdian."] Sir, —I was much impressed at the Borough School on Monday night with the excellence of the general discussion. Everyone seemed glad to avail! themselves of the opportunity for little debates, and -tlie -whole thing swung along with admirable good humour. Surely in Ashburton we could run a debating club to discuss subjects— municipal, political, or economic. If the chib were non-sectarian, there should be general support and a hearty welcome for "it. Winter nights are long and empty enough in our town. Such a club would make a bright place in every fortnight, or even every week. In addition to pure debating, lecturers might be imported to speak on -subjects in which they are expert. At any rate, with a generall election looming, a. debating club should provide a little fire and warmth for the coming winter evenings. DIALECTIC.
