The relatives of Lance-Corporal W. E. Sturgiss, of Rakaia, have received cable advice that he is returning on board the s.s. Corinthic, due here on or about the 22nd' of this month". Lance-Corporal Sturgiss left with the Seventeenth Reinforcements, and has been on active service in France ever since. According to private advice received in Dunedin. Dr. J. H. Jowett-, of Birmingham, the famous preacher of Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church. New York, and now of the City Temple,. London, has long been contemplating a visit to New Zealand, and hopes shortly to put.this purpose into effect. Mr R. L. Fisher has been appointed general manager, and Mr D. J. She?. has "been promoted to be secretary,, of the• Canterbury, Frozen Meat Company, Ltd. Mr L. A. "Stringer, town clerk of Lyttelton, was yesterday appointed Registrar of Canterbury College., as successor to Mr G. H. Mason, who is about to retire.

Cris"-> has received advice that his son. Second-Lieutenant Percy Crisp, is returning to New Zealand, arid arrives on or about April 28. Second-Lieutenant Crisp left with the Ninth Reinforcements.
