DOMINION NEWS.

WELLINGTON, April 4. The Hon. T. M. Wilford announced that Cabinet had approved a further increase in pay of constables and sergeants of Is 6d a day, while the scale for a permanent increase for all other officers is now being prepared for submission to Cabinet.

The committee which reported on Mr Wilford's recommendation stated that it was necessary to increase the police pay in order to maintain the strength of the Force, which is now 800, against 1000 in pre-war time. It was also necessary to grant increases, as the wait bonus ceased on March 31.

The house allowance to married sergeants is also increased from £37 7s 6d a year to 15s a week. All increases take effect from April 1.
