A meeting of the Ashburton District Branch of the W.C.T.U. was held in Baring Square schoolroom oh Tues■aay afternoon^ with a good attendance of members and friends. The ladies of the Baptist Foreign Mission Society combined with the members of the local union to supplicate God's blessing upon the efforts being put forward in connection with the coming poll. In the absence of Mrs G. Miller, Mrs Lill led the devotional proceedings, and a profitable time was spent.

Owing to the increased cost of labour and material in publishing, it was decided to donate 5s towards \the "expenses of the "White Ribbon" Fund.

Arrangements were made to hold a drawing-room meetTng at the residence of Mrs J. Osborn, Winter's Road, u'hen Mrs S. H. D. Perrymari, editor of "White Ribbc»n," will be present. Mrs G. Bowman moved a notice of motion for discussion at next general meeting: "That in the interests of the W.C.T.U. as an undenominational body, it is advisable that meetings be held in a public hall."
