- JOHANNESBURG, March 28. A meeting, of the Town Council, after a hot debate, decided by 18 votes to 13, to retrench thirty employees in the municipal power station. The galleries were, crowded with Council employees and other workers, who hurled • threats and curses at the councillors, sang the "Red Flag," and dispersed in disorder. There was a dramatic episode at the conclusion, a Labourite councillor shouting, ''The Council will .rue the day when it crossed swords with organised Labour."
A ballot of the master builders in Johannesburg and Pretoria was -overwhelmingly against further concessions to the men.on strike. •■
