RANGITATA ROAD BOARD.

A. meeting of the Rangitata Road Board was held at Lismore on Monday last. Present: Messrs A. McKenzie (chairman), M. Charles, W. J. Allan, and B. Withell.

The clerk reported that 30 feet of pipes had been laid at Charles's Corner and the motor bridge removed < to the cross-roads two and a-half miles further south. Pipes had been provided for a race at Anderson's Cornier and another near Mr Sims's property on the Cracroft Road. A gate arid fencing material had been obtained for a shingle-pit, and the slnngling of Carter's road was proceeding. Pipes would become a necessity in all races where there is much motor traffic, as it was difficult to repair fords where cars cut down the approaches. The Ashburton County Council advised that timber for a motor bridge near Mr Tasker's could be obtained from the old flume at South Hinds. — The clerk said' he had not seen the timber; but if it was: on the south side of the Hinds it was 10 miles from Tasker's. —The clerk was instructed to enquire if the County Council would pay the cost of erecting the bridge, and if some of the timber could be had for use at pipe culverts. In reply to an enquiry, the clerk said he had had no acknowledgment of applications' for pipes an Ruddenklau's Road.

It was resolved to recommend pipes for a race on Hinds Road, near Mr Stephens's, and., a sheep-bridge on Wai ley's Road.

Application was made for deviation of a race in Messrs Morrison and Simpson's.—lt was resolved that the board had no objection to the alteration, provided the road-crossing is piped, and applicants bear the cost, and the clerk was directed to forward 'the application to the Comity Council.

A quantity of guide-posts was ordered to be obtained, to mark the ends, of culverts. ..

Accounts totalling £55 16s 9d wore passed, and the board adjourned.
