LONDON, May 9
Mr Philip Gibbs states:—On Tuesday the enemy's gunfire from Loos and Lens to the southward was very heavy throughout the night.
The enemy launched a violent coun-ter-attack on our new line, which the Canadians had captured at Fresnoy. 'Further south the Scots at Bullecourt were fighting at close quarters, mainly with bombs, routing the enemy down their trenches and out of the village.
Elsewhere there have been sma! night raids, accompanied by the heav; est artillery fire.
