DUNEDIN, May 8. When the Criminal sittings opened this morning, the. Crown Solicitor intimated that the trial of Arthur Ledgerwood, on a charge of attempted murder, be deferred till next' sittings, owing to the young woman (Ruby MeKnight) alleged to have been shot by accused, being still unable to leave the hospital.
The following sentences were passed: —Treavo Gardiner, breaking and entering at Oa'maru-—ordered to be detained for reformatory treatment for a period of not more than three years; Lizzie Herbert, theft of Government monies as inspector under the Infants Act — to come up for sentence if called on within 12 months, and pay the costs of the prosecution (£2 2s).
