A NEUTRAL TRAVELLER'S IMPRESSIONS.

In an article in the "Daily Chronicle" a neutral traveller continues his description of conditions in Germany and Austria.
. It is everywhere admitted that war with America, must be averted,' as it would be a final and crushing blow. It is noticeable that thrift is being earned out to tho most extreme detail. Jtn Austria train lamps are burning oil extracted from apple pips. An appeal is being circulated asking everyone to surrender gold teeth, plates, and stop pings for the duration of-the war, and dentists are; forbidden to use gold.
There is considerable agitation in Southern Germany regarding tho Food Dictator's power, which overrides the local laws, which <■ prohibits export from Bavaria and other States where foodstuffs are plentiful.
The Chancellor has gone, to Munich, Stuttgart, and Karlsruhe with a- view to revising the food organisation.
Important negotiations arc beginning in Berlin to decide the position of. Alsace-Lorraine after the war. The Germans have rebuilt the Liege for (■..<■• £n concrete and iron.
