AUCKLAND ENLISTMENTS
STATEMENT 13V PRIME MINISTER
AUCKLAND, March 22. Fifty-seven recruits unlisted to-day, 29 being accepted, 15 deferred, and 13 rejected. A recruiting rally was held at Newmarket to-night, when Mr Massoy tuid Sir Joseph Ward spoke. As a result a number of volunteers came forward, and they were still being examined at a late hour.
A suggestion has been made that the Government should sol, sin example to private 'employers by calling upon single men in the Public Service to enlist. The question was briefly discussed by tho Prime Minister. "A very largo proportion of singlo men in the Government service has already enlisted," said Mr Ma.ssey. : "I am very sorry not to have the' numbers with mooopi p I should be very glad to give them. I am quite certain that men in Government employ have set a good example to others throughout the Dominion. I cannot, of course, speak for ovory man, hut I am satisfied that there are not many .single men left in the Public Servico who can make it possible to enlist."
