HEROIC FIGHT AGAINST CAS.
STORY CREATES A SCENE IN THE DUMA. (Received August 4, noon.)PETROGRAD, August 3.
There was an unprecedented scene in the Duma, many members weeping, when the Minister of War described how a Siberian Fusiliers Regiment was almost wiped out by poisonous gas. The position had been held at all costs. Not a man left his place, and all heroically struggled to resist the fatal fumes. Many falling unconscious, still continued firing in a half stupor, rallying- again and again for another shot, until they were utterly helpless. The survivors continually ran along the trenches-, firing from different points, to make tho enemy believe the position was still strongly held. The'gas penetrated far to the rearward, killing staff officers and two-thirds of a'company coming up to the relief. The membors of the Duma stood in silence. in honour of the troops' glorious, courage. -.
