IN POSSESSION OF OPIUM.
WELLINGTON, March 13. A Chinese named Do&g Sing was fined £5 Is at the Magistrate's Court to-day on a charge of possessing opium for smoking. Accused denied knowledge of the opium, which the police found where he had just been sitting. An elderly Chinaman named Sing Lee, who hud previously been fined for a similar offence, declared that Dong was _ innocent, but the Magistrate considered that both gave perjured evidence, and remarked strongly on the fact.
