There was a good deal of interest in the ballot at Waimate to-day for the two Crown settlements of Tar a, 3623 acres of second-class land in eight , sections, and Lansdown, 2070 acres of first-class land in nine sections. For the Tara block there ..were 98 applicants, 60 going in for one lot, and for Lansdown there were 76. Most of the sections fell to South Canterbury and 'Oainaru people, one to Leeston, and one to Mosgiel. The ballot resulted as follows: — TARA ESTATE (Second-class Land).
