Mrs Fankhurst was captured at. Glasgow, ivhen attempting to escape, and bundled into a motor-car. Hundreds of women attempted to rescue her but mounted police rushed the crowd, and Mrs Pankhurst was lodged in the police' station.

Meanwhile the fight continued in the hall. A dozen women on the platform produced st^out truncheons, and stood behind a barbed wire fence concealedby flowers. Later a crowd attempted to storm the police station, but several hundred constables repulsed them.
