ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

PROPOSED ASHBURTON CLUB

A meeting of those persons interested in the formation of an Association football club in Ashburton was held in Glenie's Stables last evening. There was a fair, but very enthusiastic, attendance of players of the game and the convener of the meeting (Mr F. H. Knight) occupied the chair. He stated that it was three seasons since , the game had been played in the Ashburton district, ' and the absence of the! game was due principally to the bad management of the Christchureh Association.. However, there seemed to be a great many " soccer " players in Ashburton at the present time, and the hope was expressed that the game would, be revived and a strong' team formed. . Continuing, -Mr Knight said that it had been suggested by one enthusiast that as a preliminary step the Burnham team might .be invited to come to Ashburton for a game, and if there was any sort of response from the players in this town, the. formation of a club could bo gone on with. ,It was generally agreed that the idea- was y good one, but it was eventually decided that a committee, consisting of Messrs F. H. Knight, H. Moore, J. IV-own. ,1. Ci'i-nev, IJ. H. Wood, W. HeLrick. and TJ. Lam h. be formed to make a cnnvasK ot Ml likely players and do all they rou'd to oncourage alar.fe number to tin-u up .'it the next weekly montinp.
