SELWYN LICENSING COMMITTEE.

The quarterly meeting of the , Selwyn Licensing Committee was held at the Courthouse, Rakaia, on Thursday. Present: Messrs T. A. B. Bailey (chairman), T. Blackloy, T. Langloy A J 'Magaoii, and A. Druir.mond. The license of the Canterbury Hotel. Mothvon, was transferred trom H. Kennedy to F. A. Hook. Conditional licenses vvero granted as follows:—To J. W. Jlalliday, for a booth at the Mount Somers and Spring-, burn races to be held on the 1/th inst; to T Twomey. for a booth at tho Aiford Torest races to be held at Metliven on the 25th instant. The volico reports as to the. condud of all hotels were satisfactory. The "Methven police reported, tnn further accommodation waa necessary in tho Mothvon hotels, also tnat modorn lire escapes were necessary, and that improvement should be made in privies and urinals—The Bench adiournod the ■ consideration of- tnese reoommendations for improvemonifi to be 'made until the annual meeting.
