T;HE YEAR'S TRANSACTIONS.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 6. Interviewed on the subject of land settlement, Mr Massey said the number of selectors of land for the year ended December 31, was 2143, tho, area selected being 677,910 acres. During the v financial year up to the end of last month the Ciovcrnmeub had purchased 140,692 acres, at a cost of £559,606. Under tht« Land Settlement Finance v 4,ct durinf the present'financial year,, the Government, had settled 4182 acres, at a cost of £58,729, and placed thereon 28 settlers. Mr Masey added that a Land- Bill would be brought down next session. He could not say the lines on which it would go, except that it would be designed to facilitate the putting of people on the land.
