LONDON, February 26. Until yesterday Sumner violently maintained his innocence,.then suddenly burst into tears when the chaplain visited him, and confessed. Tho Bishop of Liverpool later conferred with Sumner as a penitent. Sumner repeated his confession to his father, and asked him to forgive ■him. The broken-hearted parent was unable to answer, and abruptly left.
