100 MORE NEEDED.

WELLINGTON, February 23
The Minister of Justice states that he requires 100' additional constables for service in various parts of the country to meet the growing demands of settlement, j Replying this afternoon to a deputation asking for additional protection in parts of the city, the Hon. Mr Herdman referred to the difficulties under which a short-staffed police force at present carried out it* duties. He was constantly receiving complaints from rapidly-growing districts, such as Ohakune, where there was only one constable, that '• more police were, required. He intended to ask the Minister of' Finance for the necessary funds to increase the force by 100 men.
