ANGLING.

All the County rivers were again clear to-day. A rainbow trout weighing 101b was recently netted near Timaru Point, Lake Hawera, by Mr .John Lange (says the " Otago Daily Times "). The fish in the lake were first liberated in November, 1911, in the creeks running into the lake and in lagoons and backwaters near the head by Mr D. Russell, of the Otago Acclimatisation Society. Some doubt has been expressed as to whether any trout could attain the weight mentioned in a little over two years, but the alternative suggetsiou— that the fisli entered from the sea —does not appear a very likely one. Trout of six and seven pounds, and supposed to

be of the rainbow variety, were netted last year, but in tlie case of the specimen under notice the verdict of competent authorities precludes the possibility of any mistake -having been made. The chairman of the Angling Committee of the Otago Acclimatisation Society, Mr Peden, is at present in the district with the intention of spending a week with rod and line around the (lake, and further results will be awaited with interest.
