THE WORLD TO-DAY.
"Guardian" Office, j February 17, 1914. The children of the late W, T. Stead do not intend to let the memory of their famous father become dim, and in addition to the frequent announcements by his'daughter that she has held communion with his spirit, one of his sons is just now giving to the world an exhaustive biography of his life's work. The reported " interviews" of the •daughter have fallen upon a somewhat sceptical world, much inclined to im : seemly jests at the suggestion that those who have passed to the Great Beyond ever come back to earth as a "spook." The question of "How fare
those who have 'crossed the Great .^Divide?" is suggested by the publica- ! tion of a book, by the Spiritual Science i••Company, of New York, entitled "Scientific' Proofs of Another. Life!" .'The /author is Miss Rose Lever©,.-- of -the "New"York Bar, and it contains many , ' amusing passages. Miss Levere says— j^and' she says she thoroughly believes .■sit—that the shades of the illustrious I ■-' dead composed her book for her: she "was merely the amanuensis. The ■ wraiths of such men as Moses', 1 Lini coin, Russell Sage, and Christopher Col- j umbus supervised the entire work, even '' to the punctuation and illustrating, she says. Probably the most welcome announcement in this volume comes from Sir Isaac Newton. The discoverer of the law of gravitation has now discovered a way to overcome it. Sir Isaac prophesises a way out of our rapid / transit- problem. All we will need to ■do is to -loam invitation, i When we want to go to any particular place we -will simply think ourselves to our destination. There will be no more danger of accidents then than there is of a collision on the telephone. The most gossipy ghost in the whole convention Avas the Marquis de Lafayette, who gives some inside information about <Ge:-rgo Washington.
