WELLINGTON, February 13. At the Supreme Court, Bernard Smith, alias Haulsten, pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault, a nolle prosequi being entered in another charge of attempted serious offence on the same child, aged <J-J years. Sentence was deferred. Frank Collins was convicted of theft from the person, and was remanded for sentence. Charles Vivian Porteous, charged with failing to account for moneys received on account of a third party, was found guilty and remanded for sentence. .'"'■. Thomas Coffey was found guilty on charges of attempted rape, indecent assault and attempted carnal knowledge of a girl aged 13 years, who had been brutally assaulted and prevented from, crying out by having a sheet stuffed into her mouth. Accused admitted being in, the room. with the girl, but denied the: offence. Sentence was 'tie-" ferred.
