THE MELBOURNE WATERSIDERS.
SHIPOWNERS DESIRE A FIGHT
(Received February 9, 9.50 a.m.)
MELBOURNE, February 9
It is anticipated that a compulsory conference to deal with the wharf men's trouble, will be summoned to-day.
The shipowners are credited with a desire to .fight the Labour Federation on the lines of the late New Zealand strike. They declare that a check must be put on the men's exorbitant demands, and even though it may mean a groat loss of money they are determined to grant no increases excepting through the Arbitration Court.
