CONFERENCE. IN WELLINGTON

WELLINGTON, February 5.

A conference of chief inspectors and medical inspectors of public schools was opened here to-day. Mr G. Hogben, Inspector-General, presided. The Hon. James Allen, Minister of Education, this evening briefly stated the work of tlie conference, the proceedings being in camera. The conference discussed various departmental matters, the' main subject being the position of teachers, certificates, and classification. It was most advisable,, the Minister said, that certificates given by the various Education Boards should be standardised, so that the certificate of one district would be the same value as tli'at of another, thus facilitating the transfers of teachers.
