WELLINGTON, November 36. # Aa unexpected hitch occurred this -evening in connection with the sailing of the Maunganui for Lyttelton. Early in the evening the .firemen came ashore, Jbavittg been called out by the Union. The seamen indicated that thej -would mot work if the Arbitration spell were put into"/ the stokehold, and it is said that there was a lively discussion •among the ; Arbitrationists as to taking up the w6rk"'-'a't": the money offered.; Eventually, however, a crew ..was secured for the stokehold, hut, as they marched up the gangway .just before §5 o'clock, the seamen came off. The stewards 'of '■ the shipl had < said $hat they would riot work it' the Arbiitrationists came on board, but changed
their minds, only one <a Union official) Seaving. ■ Ship captains and officers'living here (were pressed into service as seamen, :and it is expected that the Maunganui -will get away late. The seamen, it is understood, did not want to come out here, as they lose a good deal in wages, but would probably have left the ship at Sydney.
