ENTERTAINMENTS.

HAYWARD'S PICTURES.

"The Reformers" was the title of the chief featuro of the new programme of pictures screened last evening at His Majesty's Theatre, and those who were present)were occasioned many a 'hearty laugh* during the unwinding of the film. The story dealt in an amusing fashion with-, the doings of a self-constituted band of, workers' styled "The Purity League," which commenced to put into practice a new system" of moral reform. The mayor of the town in which the members of the league lived was persuaded to help in the movement, but he was suddenly brought face to face with the fact; that while looking after the morals of others he. had completely forgotten those" of his own children. The lesson was a timely one, and' its consequent . effect was. striding. " The Mystery of the A.V.Z. 1 Gang" was an unreal kind of drama dealing with the systematic, kidnapping 6f. children. The gang was brought to. book by the spirited efforts of an army officer. Some very- fine: scenery was revealed in the scenic film " Views in and around Cornwall," but the beauty of the country was spoilt by the altogether inartistic colouring of the picture. Two topical gazettes — the "Warwick Chronicle" and the " New .Zealand Animated News "—

were screened. Each contained.a large and enlightening numb.er of " news pictures " of recent important happenings in the Dominion and other parts of the globe. " Red Revenge " was a mild type of Indian drama, and the comics, which were very fair, included "A Taste of His Own Medicine," " The -Professor's Predicament," "Faithful Friend," and "His Chum the Baron." The programme: will be shown again this evening. '
