ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.
The Ashburton live stock market was held at the Tinwald Yards to-day. There was a moderate attendance and the total sheep penned numbered 1745, as against 1290 for the previous sale. The yarding of fat ewes showed an imcrease on last week's total, but several
lines were little better than forward stores) and were taken by farmer's. There was fairly keen competition for prime ewes, but prices were about Is 6d per head lower than last week, woolly ewes making up to 26s and shorn" ewes up to 18s 4d. There was a decrease in the yarding of'fat wethers and although the quality! was good, there was not a great demand and a large percentage" was parsed in by auction. Woolly wethers made up to 25s 3d, and. shorn ditto up to 19s 6d. There were 18 fat lambs yarded, against eight at the previous sale, but they were small, and 10 were passed in by auc, tion, prices reaching up to 18s 9d. Two hoggets made 18s. The details of the fat sheep .penned were as follows, the figures in parentheses being those for ' last week:—Ewes: 216 (140); wethers 152 (192); lambs, 18 (8). There was practically no competition for the small yarding of store sheep and of the number penned (1357) 1283 were passed in by auction. The yard- " ing of store sheep sent forward last week was 950.
