CARTERS' STRIKE AFFECTING ASHBURTON.
Owing to such a large number of people being absent from the town, Ashburton is more than usually quiet, and business is, therefore, slack. By the 11.15 train for Christchurch this morning about, a do^«n specials ler Ashburton for Addingtori. There were not many, people on the •'station, and the specials went away quietly. Specials; will continue'to go forw'aixJ to the seat of the trouble from time to time as long as they are needed. Local merchants are beginning to feel the effects of the' carters' strike
in \ Christchurch, as scarcely any goods are coming through.
