A Sydney cable message announces tfoe death of Mr Greene, M.L.C., who was one of the largest wheat growers m New South Wales. Madame Melba, at the close of her Sydney season of grand opera last night, had an enormous and enthusiastic audience. IProfessor, Gilrjith, of Melbourne (formerly chief veterinary surgeon to the New Zealand Agricultural Department) has arrived m Auckland for a holiday tour of the Dominion. Mr W. He will attend the Australasian championship meeting m Wellington and also the' conference to discuss the questions of the Olympic team and the Board of Control for the union. Dr F. W. Pennefather, of County "Wicklow, Ireland, who was private secretary to Sir "Wm. Jervois when he Was Governor of New Zealand, and subsequently acted as a puisne Judge of the Supreme Court during the absence abroad of Sir Joshua Williams, is a visitor to Wellington. He intends to make a motor-car tour m the North Island early m the "New Year. A message from Timaru received last evening stated that a large gathering, representing all classes an;l creeds, assembled at the Lyceum Haiti last night to bid farewell, and ma'ro a presentation to, the Yen.
