THE RECENT SHOW: A PROTEST.

To the* Editor; Sil*,—Permit me to enter my 6niphatic protest against the decision of the judge (Mr H. P.. Madden} in the bread and scones" section at the recent Winter Show. Firstly, in the open bread section, Mrs Gallagher (194) secured third, Miss Tay10r,,(199) v.h.0., and Mrs Shearer (193) h.ci, and Mrs Martin (196) no place at all. In the Supreme flour prize, Mrs Shearer beat Mrs Gallagher. In the Robertson's prize Mrs Martin beat Mrs Shearer, although Mrs Martin was in for the Siipl*em6 prize!, and Miss Taylor, who beat both the latter in tl'ie opeii class, secured lip pri.ize at all in Robertson!s prize, although the bre.ad was exactly, the same. . .Theji, again, Mrs Shearer, who beat Mrs Martin in the Supreme prizes hadn't, .a hope in Robertson's iprize, because Mrs, Martin beat her, and the bread was the same in each case. Great disappointment was evident at the result of the judge's award. In.the scones section the judging was even worse, and some beautiful scon°s there, that got no prize at all;- should have secured first. I believe the Association would get better results,if they appointed two judges outside the town, and ladies at that, as was done at the recent Winter Show held in Dnnedin. In these days of progress we do not want as judge one with old-fashioned ideas; we want one with the latest knowledge of baking. EXHIBITOR.
