♦ • THE GOVEENMENT'S REDISTKIBU-

TION SCHEME.

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.

Lonbon, July 11

In the House of Commons, ,Mr Gerald Balfour gave notice of redistribution resolutions giving England a gain of 17 seats, Wales one seat, and Scotland 4 seats. Ireland loses 22 seats. The scheme ia arranged on a general basis of each member representing 6500 voters, but present constituencies of 7500 voters are allowed to retain two members. A borough with a population below 18,500 ceases to be a separate constituency. Received July 12, 8.36 a.m. London, July 11 The " Daily Mews" says that the redistribution resolutions are an ignoble attempt to add sixteen months to the Government's life and deliberately aim at the destruction of Irish representation, ■while maintaining the rottener English conservative boroughs, which are flagrant pieces of jerrymandering.
