United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph, July 6 Wm. Joseph Williams appeared at the District Court to-day, on two charges o£ indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16 years, nt his residence, Waimangaroa, in or about the month of March, 1905, and at the Primitive Methodist Church, Waimangaroa, on or about the 9th January, 1905. Counsel for the defence raised the point the information was not laid within the time permitted by the statute, and Judge ffaselden, upholding the contention, direoted the jury to return a verdict of not guilty. The jury acted accordingly. On a second indictment of indecent assault on a girl 1q years of age, on January 9th, a verdict of guilty was returned, and sentence was deferred till the morning.
