A Miesivo Man.—An elderly man named Robert Carmichael, who has for Borne time past resided with a man named Cotter in a house near the Hospital, left his home on June 27th, and has not since returned. The missing man was unmarried, and Cotter this morning gave information to the police as to his disappearance. Medical Examination of Children.— The school inspectors of the Taranaki Education Board, in their annual report to the Board, express a strong opinon that every child before admission to a school should undergo medical examination. The report goes on to say " a certificate given to the teacher should show whether sight or hearing, etc., is defective; whether the child is suffering from or shows any symptoms of any contagious or iufeotious disease; from what subjects and for how long it is desirable that the child should receive exemption, and so on." The inspectors add that the certificate should indicate what precautions are required in every case, both in the interest of the pupil and of its class-mates. The state of education in Russia miy be judged from the fact that there is only on* village school for every 12,000 persons. There are now 52 prohibition orders in force in Masterton, including eight issued last month. Mr James Porter desires to call the attention of the public to his large collection of Nursery stock, including fruit and hedge trees, shrubs, etc. He also notifies that he does planting by contract.
