The Late Mr John Orr.

Prior to the commencement of the Borough Council meeting last evening, the Mayor moved the following resolution :— "That this Council expresses its deep regret at the death of Mr John Orr, and conveys its sympathy with his widow and family at their loss, and desires to place on record its appreciation of his pa3t services rendered to the Borough both as Mayor and Councillor ; also that a letter of condolence, enclosing a copy of this resolution, bo forwarded to Mrs Orr." Cr Seid seoonded the motion, which was carried unanimously, Councillors standing in respest to the memory of the deceased. The mover and. seconder and several Counoillors referred to the loss sustained to the Borough e£ Ashburton by the untimely death of Mr John Otr, and eulogised the character of the deceased gentleman. Cr Arnier Orr then briefly thanked the Council on behalf of himself and other members of the family, for its expression of sympathy.
