Opening of Parliament. — The third session of the fifteenth Parliament of New Zealand was opened tnis afternoon by His Excellency the Governor, Lord Plunkett. Druids—The usual fortnightly meeting of the Star of Ashburton Lodge was held lasfc night, A.D. Bro. Dobbin presiding over a fair attendance. Two candidates were initiated into the Order, and one proposed for membership. P.A. Bro. Thomson, of the Ivanhoe Lodge, Dunedin, visited the Lodge, and gave particulars of the progress of the Order m the south. After transacting routine business the Lodge adjourned for games, and was closed at the usual hour. lechnical Education.— We note that the American School of Correspondence, Armour Institute, ha 3 appointed several professional gentlemen to examine students at Auckland m some of the engineering branches. Therefore those preferring to have an auial examination may now do so. The Institution has also added a law branch to its curriculum and as the fees are extremely low, and the instruction second to none m the world, intending students should Bee the Ashburton agent (G. H. Carson) early, and obtain all information. 6 Mr David Thomas's next Horse Fair will take place on Friday, July 28th. Messrs W.
