Gregory, Gehrs, McLeod and Newland were omitted from the Australian team. Byrne won tha toss and with Fishwick opened the county's innings. The first wicket fell at 12, Kelly catching Byrne at the wiokets. Fishwick, when 12, snicked Cotter into the slip 3 where Armstrong took the ball. 2 for 31. Cotter's bowling was kicking a good deal. Layer was bowling at the other end. Quaife, after batting for an hour for 21, was beaten by Noble with, a breakback. 3 for 76. Kinnier was 30 when Baker joined him, and by some fine leg strokes both batsmen steadily increased i the scores. Howell went on, and eventually !
