The Canterbury Amateur Boxing Association opened their third annual championship competitions last night at Christchurch The following are results :— Novice competition—A.. Morrison beat A. Yeaden; S. German beat G-. W. Salterj L. Nash beat S. G. Moses. Feather Weight Championship—H. J. Overend (?3t) met J. Johnson, Ashbnrton, (Bst 101 b). Overend, short and thick set, forced the pace from the commencement. He exhausted his strength to no purpose, and Johnson, cooly defending himself, ultimately brought his reserve force to the fore, and began to get some telling blows on his tiring opponent. At the commencement | of the second round Overend found the f floor for a couple of seconds, and retalt- | atedby striking Johnson on the face rather heavily a couple of times, but received an exchange which sent him to the boards for a moment. Johnson showed that he had the better knowledge of boxing, and the referee's decision m his favour -was hailed with cheers. T. Sheriff, Ashburton (Bst 121 b) met A. Webb (Bst 131 b). The men were alike m height as well as m weight;, and were remarkable tor an almost even absence of any remarkable cleverness. They hit at each other lustily, and for a couple of rounds there was little to choose between them, but as the third round progressed Webb delivered some effective upper-cuts which gave him a good claim to the referee's verdict m his favour. His win was greeted with repeated bursts of cheering. L. Blaokler beat F. G. Seuib, and A. Thompson had a bye. Heavy Weight Champion—F. Batchelor beat J. T. Bowers; W. J. Eobertson had a bye. Middle Weight Championship—"R. C. Eoes beat P. W. Olliver; A. Leckie beat F. Nash. Light Weight Championship—-H. Earrow beat A. Farquharson ; T, Richards beat C. Wright. The competitions will be concluded tonight.
