Received May 24, 8.31 a.m. London, May 23 After Saturday's repulse, the Russians retreated to the right bank of fche Marienho, leaving a few companies on the left bank, which on being defeated retreated northward m disorder. The Americau fleet at Cavite intend only to allow the Russians sufficient coal to reach Vladivostock. Reports received at Tokio of the capture of a junk with many Russian officers on board are supposed to indicate that a reconnaissance has been made from Vladivostook. "The Times" St. Petersburg correspondent reports that the peace sentiment is so overwhelming, that m the event of Rozjestvenski's defeat, tha warlike minority must give way.
