Westport, May 14 Tha Rev. Father Hays concluded hia temperance crusade m Westport, over 500 having taken bis temperance pledge. This morning he celebrated maa3 at 8 o'clock m St. Caniee's Roman Catholic Church. As an outcome of a public meeting of Roman Catholics held the other evening to form a reception committee, a large and enthusiastic demonstration was held, to-day m the Catholic School, when Father Hays WB3 publicly welcomed and presented on behalf of the Roman Catholic congregation of Westport with an illuminated address and gold eroas. In acknowledging the presentation, Father Hays spoke m very encouraging terms of the splendid success which had everywhere attended his work m New Zealand. He urged the Catholics to take their place m the social 1 ife of the colony, and be steadfast and useful ditizens.
