MONTHLY MEETING.

The usual monthly meeting of the Wakanui Eoad Board took place this morning. Present — Messrs G. W. Lead ley (chairman),!'. M. Jones, J. Allan, T. Doi" and T. D. Doak. ° This being the first meeting of the new Board, Mr G. W. Leadley was unanimously re-elected Chairman of the Board, and euitably responded to the compliment. Correspondence was dealt with as under: From fche Land Department, re certain reserves at Chertsey and Dromore. —Received. From Messrs Booth and McDonald, forwarding credit note for £1 m respect of broken casting m road grader.—Received From a ratepayer, thanking the Board for repairing culvert.—Received. Prom a ratepayer, complaining that ay bridge on Paterson's road was unsafe, and asking that repairs be executed.—Received. The Chairman said that pipes had been purchased for the repair of the bridge. From the Government Executive Council, forwarding names of fresh noxious weeds. —Received From Mr F. Wilding, Solicitor, stating that m his opinion the Board had power to order the trimming, lowering, or removal of trees overshadowing the Board's roads, provided such overshadowing affected the cost of maintenance oE the road.—Keceived. It was resolved that the Board's solicitor be requested to write to the Ashburton Cemetery Board asking that certain trees overshadowing the road be removed. Mr J. L. Higgs wrote offering to paint the Board's offices and two cottages at Riverton for £16.—Received, and offer acoepted. The Overseer reported on the work done during the past month, and furnished a list of roads m the Board's district which were not usad by the public.—Report received and adopted. It was decided to instruct the Board's eolioitor to advertise the roads which the Board desire to close. Accounts to the amount of .£25 la 21 were passed for payment.—The credit balance at the Bank stood at £325 5s 3d.
