Ashburton County Council, NOTICR is hereby given, in pursuance of the provisions of "The Water Supply Act, 1891," and its Amendments, that the above Council intends, at the expiration of thirty days from the first publication of this notice, to construct cerrain Water Races in tho AshburtonRakaia Water Race District, the proposed courses whereof areas follow :— (1) A Main Race commencing on the South-West bank of the River Kakaia, at a point in Rural Section 6127, about three chains and twenty links distant from a road forming tho South-Eastern boundary of that section ; thence proceeding in a South-Kasterly direction through the said section, across the said road, and through Reserve 786, and Rural Section 19661, into Reserve 173; thence South-Westerly through Reserve 173, across a road, to a point in other part of the said Reserve, distant about 882 links and five-tenths of a link from the said road; thence SouthEasterly a distance of about 1549 links and peven-tenths of a link ; thence again SouthWesterly to a road, across the road,- and into Lot 20", Deposited Plan 1992, to a point in said Lot distant about 1329 links and four-tenth 3of a link from said read; thence South-easterly a distance of about 555 links and five-tenths of a link, and a«--tin South-Easterly to a fen<e on paid Lot, a further distance of about 761 links urtd nine-tenths of a link. This race to ba 100 links wide. (2) A Race commencing at tho Southern end of the la-st described r.'tce, and proceod in<> in a South-Westerly direction through Lota 26 and 25, Depo.-ifed Plan 1992, to a point in Lot 2i>, situated about '3><U links airi seren-tcnths of a link from the Southern end of the last described nice. This race to be 25 links wide. (3) A Branch Race from Main Race (I) commencing at a point in the Main Race situated in Lot 20, Deposited Plan 1992, about 1329 links and four-tenths of a link distant from the road forming the NorthKnstern boundary of that Lof, and proceeding in an irregular but generally South-Easterly direction through Lots 2f5 and 25, across a road, through Lots 22 and 21, and enteriug Lot 35, Deposited Plan 1992, at a point distant about 262 links from the South-Eastern boundary of that section ; thence proceeding in a SouthEasterly and afterwards in a Southerly direction to the South-We3tern boundary of Lot 20. This Race to be 25 links wide. (4) A Race connecting with the Race lastly desoribed at a point in tot 21, and thence proceeding in an irregular but generally South-Easterly diroction through Rural Section 17386 to Bushy Park Road ; across that road into Rural Seotion 18446 : thence South-Easterly a distance of about 13 links and five-tenths of a link ; thence Southerly a distance of about 466 links and seven-tenths of a link, and again SouthEasterly a distance of about 346 linka and three-tenths of a link. This Race to be 25 links wide. (5) A Race commencing from Main Race (I) in Reserve 173, and proceeding SonthEasterly along the South-Western boundaries of that Reserve, and of Lota 31, 32, 33, and 34, Deposited Plan 1992, to a point iv Lot 34, distant about 651 links from the North-Western boundary of the Lot. Tbiß Race to be 40 link 3 wide. (6) A Race to be a continuation of the last described Race, and proceeding SouthEasterly along the South - Western boundaries of said Lot 34, a gravel reserve, and Lot 35, Deposited Plan 1992, to a road forming the South-Eastern boundary of Lot 35. This Race to be 60 links wide. (7) A Main Race commencing at a point in Kural Section 33436, on the South- Went bank of the River Rakaia, thence proceeding generally in a South-Easterly direction through that Section and Rural Sections 33433 and 33432 to a point in Lot 20, Deposited Plan 1992, situated abont 1011 links from a road forming the NorthEastern boundary of that Lot, This Race tobe 100 links wide. For the purposes of the above works it is desired to acquire rights to construct and maintain the Races above described as (1), (2), (3), (4), and (5) on strips of land along the courses above mentioned, and to carry and lead water in, upon, and along the said water races ; also to dig and break up the surface of the soil of the paid strips of laud and to make channels therein and to do all acts, matters, and things which may be necessary or convenient in connection with the construction, maintenance, inspection, repair, enlargement, alteration, or cleansing of the said Water Races, or the leading and carrying of water in, upon, or along the same ; also to deposit and leave spoil and cleanings from any such race upon the banks thereof ; also, a right of way and passage at all times for the members of the Ashburton County Council, and the officers, contractors, workmen, and agents of the said Council, with or without horses, carriages, and machinery, over and upon each of the said strips of land for all purposes connected with the construction, maintenance, inspection, repair, enlargement, alteration, and cleansing of the said water races. The breadths of the strips ok" land to be affected by the foregoing rights and easements are as specified in <l), (2), (3), (4) and (5). And notice is farther given that, for the ! purpose of supplying the Races described in (1), (2), (3), (4) and (6), the above Council intends to take and divert water from the River Rakaia by means of an intake constructed on Rural Section 7186 ; and for the purpose of supplying the Race described in (6), by means of an intake constructed upon Rural Section 33436. Plans showing the courses of the proposed Water Races, and also the lands, roads, and Reserves through which it is intended that the snid Races shall pass respectively, aud also the parts of the River Raksia from which water is intended to be taken, have been deposited at the Magistrates' Courthouse, South Rakaia, and also at the County Council's offices, Baring Square, Ashbnrton, and will be there open for public inspection every week day, during office hours, for a period of 30 days from the first publication of this notice.
