PEBSONAL—The friends of Mrs D. Butterick, of Wakanui, will regret to hear of her serious indisposition, County Council — The next monthly meeting of the Ashburton Connty Council will be held on Friday next, commencing at the usual hour. The Horse Market.—As the average farmer now-a-days takes a pardonable pride in keeping horses of the very best breed and stamina on his farm, this class of horse is at the present time coming into keener demand. Generally speaking while the horse market, not only in Ashburton, bnfc right throughout the colony, has been somewhat disappointing during the past year, viewed from a breeder's standpoint, horses of the class above indicatod have invariably met with ready sale at fair prices, although probably not at full values. At the last fair conducted by Mr D. Thomas, however, the market was decidedly more animated for all classes of horses as was evidenced by the large number of sales that wera effected out of the exceptionally large entry of 150 head of mixed breeds of animal?. The improved tone of the market was especially noticeable in young draught sorts of good quality, bone and hair. The "Press" Wellington correspondent states that changes are impending in connection with the "New Zealand Times" dircctcrxto. It is understood thero is a likelihood that both Or Findlay and Dr Chappie may becomn directors. At pref ent Mr Robert Bannister is acting as managing director, and he has associated with him It Collins and Mr Wardell. It is not improbable that litigation will ensue as the result of the suspension of a prominent member of the staff, Since being placed on the New Zealand market the Royal Standard Pills have been in great demand. The Pills may now be obtained from all chemists and grocers in Ashburton 3 0 Rheumatism is one of the most painful disease?.
