Napier March 7 A man named John Gell was thrown from a trap m Hastings and died from his injuries. Wellington, March 7. A deputation from the Stationary and Traction Engine Drivers' Union waited on the Minister of Public Works last evening, and complained of the decision of the Arbitration Court m differentiating bei tween competency by examination certificates and service certificates, The former wore awarded one shilling per day more m each grade. The deputation contended that the intention of the Act was to make the certificates equal. The Minister promised that the matter would be looked into. In answer to another matter, he promised that Inspectors would be appointed m a few days to see that the awards of the arbitration Court were carried out. Dunedin, March 7. Mr J. E. Thornton, solicitor, who was picked up on the St Clair beach yesterday, died m the Hospital at 10 minutes past five this morning.
