CANTERBURY FROZEN MEAT COMPANY'S PICNIC.

The annual picnic of the employees of tre Canterbury Frezm Meat Company was held in the Rakaia Domain on Monday. A train from Ashburton took about 500 passengers, the F*irfield employees and their families and friends. A train from Belfast took quite 1000 passengers, and was accompanied by the Wiolston Kharki Band. The cricket ground was we!J patronised, and some of the juvenile visitors indulged in a spell of football. A number of swimming races were got off during the day. The following gentlemen worked aaßfduously to make the gathering a success :—Messrs Waymoutb, Mfticolnißon, Glass, H. and G. Kllis, U Devries, W. Koenß, Hopkius, Sullivan, Liads&Vi A. Mateer, and Connor, and they were ably assisted by a committee from each department of the works. Mesdamei Waymouth and Devries acted as judges of the baby show. The band discoursed pleasing strains during the day. The tug-ot-war at the coaolusioa of the day's festivities, between the FairSeld and Belfast employees, w«a well contested, and the Fairfield team luoooeded in twice vanquishing their opponents. Mr F. Waymouth, secretary of the company, expressed the thanks of the excur eioniets to the Rakaia Domain Board for the use of their handsome ground, and called fer three cheers for Messrs Hardy and Oxley, the chairman and secretary of the Board.
